Master Class REVIEW - “Present Like a Pro”

More than 200 leaders living in 9 countries are members of the GET MOMENTUM Leadership Academy.

Many of them tuned in to this month’s Master Class titled:

“Present Like a Pro”

As you can see in this short introduction video (scroll to the bottom HERE), there are two VERY specific goals for this leadership course:

  1. Practice identifying key points in EVERY presentation.
  2. Utilize ALL the resources you have access to.

The Master Class is a 45-minute executive summary of the GET MOMENTUM Course Work:

Immediately after the program, I heard from THREE members about the impact and importance of this month’s Master Class:

  1. “I get it now, everything is a presentation.”
  2. “I learned that I can present the same thing in different ways to different people. Easier.”
  3. “I need to video record myself presenting. Not to show anyone else or publish, but to watch and study myself.”

What is the GET MOMENTUM Master Class? In just :42 seconds, we explain it right here.

(We do have ONE big announcement, read all the way to the bottom to find out!)

Now, some of you may be thinking, “How is ‘presenting’ a leadership skill?

Think about what you could do, if you were more effective at bringing your ideas to the people you hope use them the most. You’re presenting all the time, you are!

  • On a stage in front of dozens
  • In a conference room of just a few
  • Across the table from your family
  • On the phone with a friend, client or vendor

Over the course of just one month, you’ll learn to “win over” the people you’re speaking with. You’ll practice organizing your main points that are backed up with and by research, as well as have some call-to-action. Finally, you’ll practice lining up your message with the facts with the stories with the suggestions that make it easier for people to believe: “Your ideas matter.”

Who is GET MOMENTUM for?

I always look to our current members to help us answer that question. So, here is a list of the most recent leaders to join:

  • The co-founder of a recently-sold communications company in Tennessee.
  • 19 Associate Professors at a university in Alabama.
  • 3 recently-promoted Directors in New York City.
  • A designer in Australia.

Are you a member?

If so, log in here and watch the recording (or, download the audio as an MP3 to listen to in your car or while you’re exercising). Would you like to see the Table of Contents for the Master Class?

The (not so) secret to momentum is… health + wellness

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been under the misconception that:

what food you eat

how much you exercise

and the quality of your sleep

Is what equals

health + wellness

But here’s the thing, after dozens of coaching calls with GET MOMENTUM members this month, we noticed 3 recurring facts:

1. Everyone KNOWS the RIGHT answers… We’re supposed to eat healthier, exercise regularly and sleep more. But we still don’t do it!

2. Everyone mentioned someone else in their life that has an impact on their habits: a spouse, kids, coworkers, clients.

3. Everyone knows that EASY wins every time. If frozen pizza is easier than steamed veggies, then you’re having pizza for dinner!

This month’s focus at GET MOMENTUM is “Your Wellness Advantage.”

Here’s the deal:

I’m not going to tell you how to eat, drink, move or sleep.

There are literally dozens of magazine, books and experts on each of those topics.

We find the behaviors and mindsets to make the best practices for your wellness to actually occur MUCH MORE FASCINATING.

Whether you’re running a company or coordinating your family sitting down together at the dinner table, you have to have a strategy.

During tomorrow’s 60-minute GET MOMENTUM Master Class titled “Wellness: The Leadership Advantage” Jason and I will coach you in best practices:

  1. To create a 5-day experiment to track your progress.
  2. To prepare yourself for a difficult conversation - because if you do this the way we’re going to coach you - you’re going to rock the boat.
  3. To prioritize your wellness improvements, starting now.

Join GET MOMENTUM today and attend tomorrow’s live Master Class.

You’ll be glad you did.

Make Every Meeting Count

It’s the first Wednesday of 2015, and I’m heading to a “calendared event,” call it a meeting if you will…

And, I’m writing specifically to invite you to join Get Momentum today.

Can I tell you why?

Recently, the Wall Street Journal reported that there are 11 million meetings held every day in America. How many of those did you attend or lead?

Have you ever stopped to ask, “What does a successful meeting look like?”

Do you have big decisions to make this year? This month?

Are the meetings you attend as effective and efficient as possible?

This month, leaders like you are becoming more effective Meeting Managers.

Get Momentum members worldwide are learning the secrets of more successful meetings.

Click here to download the ENTIRE Get Momentum Leadership Coaching curriculum.

There are FOUR areas leaders need to focus on to become excellent meeting managers. This month, we cover how to:

Prepare for an effective meeting

Lead an effective meeting

Attend an effective meeting

and Follow Up effectively

Imagine if your meetings were more efficient and effective.

Join Get Momentum today and you can attend tomorrow’s 45-minute Master Class titled:

“Plan, Lead and Attend Better Meetings.”

I know that meetings have a bad reputation. Think about it, everyone loves to complain about meetings. But here’s the thing…meetings aren’t going away anytime soon.

And Get Momentum members I’ve talked to say they spend 20-30 hours a week planning and attending meetings. If your schedule is anything like this, you know how consuming and important it is.

Having more efficient, effective and productive meetings could save you 20% of the time you’re currently spending. That equals 4-6 hours that you could get back into your life.

During tomorrow’s Online Global Webinar “Master Class,” Get Momentum members will learn:

1. How “Decision Fatigue” negatively affects your ability to lead effectively.

2. At least 3 of the 5 skills effective managers know about running meetings.

3. The impact that “Checklists” - and examples - have on meeting management.

AND, studying the month-long Momentum Module this month, you’ll learn how to effectively plan and prepare for a meeting, keep the meeting on track, manage any problems that arise, and properly follow up afterwards.

There is plenty of time to sign up as a member so you can be on the live Master Class that’s happening this Thursday, January 8th. We present the Master Class as a webinar twice each day, once early in the day, and once in the evening…we RECORD the Master Class so you can watch it later when you have time.

Basic monthly Get Momentum Membership is just $99/month. I know you’ll get more than 10X the value you pay to be a part of it.

Last Thursday and Friday I hiked about 52 miles through the Grand Canyon – from the North Rim to the South Rim  and back again– and spent a bit of time thinking about people reading this blog…

How do you juggle three balls in the air at one time?

Yesterday, I was able to spend some free time with my niece and nephew who are visiting us from Los Angeles. Early in the day, I had so much to do, I wasn’t 100% positive I would be able to meet them at the pool.

But, using the same techniques I’m teaching this month at Get Momentum, I was able to free up about 75 minutes later in the afternoon.

How do you keep three balls in the air at one time?

You have momentum.

You need momentum to make progress on all the goals you’ve set for your work, your life and your community. Whether your “Big Thing” this year is personal or professional, membership in Get Momentum will guide you to successful outcomes.

A while back, Scott Keller, a director at McKinsey & Company, described the importance of personal growth and development. He said we have got to know “what to change at a personal level.”

Just take this month’s Town Hall webinar as an example. Tomorrow, in just 45 minutes, you will learn at least 5 ways to get more things done each day. If you have been saying you “need more time” in the day, join us.

This month’s topic is:

Productivity Through Technology

This month, Get Momentum members around the world have told me they have:

  • 1. Learned to maximize the technological tools they have (at work/in life);
  • 2. Saved up to an hour a day using these tools;
  • 3. Feel much more productive, as they make improvements their personal organization, productivity tools and workplace routines.

At the heart of Get Momentum is a focus on developing your self-awareness. The more you know about the 12 skills we study each year - one skill each month - at Get Momentum, the more successful you will be.

Become a member by 9am PST on Wednesday, July 25th and you can attend the LIVE presentation of our Town Hall. And, if you join as a member after that, you’ll be able to watch a recording of that webinar by Thursday.

Welcome, you’re about to Get Momentum. As Steve Jobs once said, “I think this is the start of something really big. Sometimes that first step is the hardest one, and we’ve just taken it.”

Can you “create” luck (in life, and at work?)

Over on the Womack Company website blog (link here) I wrote about this month’s GetMomentum theme: Creating Opportunities…

As you’re considering changing things up a bit, and looking to make this year even better than before, look around and notice the two kinds of opportunities that show up:

Situations that arise that you are ready for, and take advantage of.

Challenges the present themselves that knock you backward.

By studying chance, luck and opportunity, you can do better. Here’s the link…

(In this month’s webinar - which you can watch a recording of as a member of www.getmomentum.com - you’ll learn how to prepare for and CREATE better opportunities out there.

Do you have Holy curiosity?

I was told once that I had “insatiable” curiosity. I must have been 12 or 13 years old, and I was at church on a Sunday. I remember when we got home that afternoon, I went to my room and took the dictionary off the shelf. I opened up my bible (shhh…I used to write in my books even way back then!) and though I had spelled it wrong, I eventually found out what insatiable means… “(of an appetite or desire) impossible to satisfy.”

Speaking of holy curiosity…

…have you ever read a biography of Albert Einstein?

While researching the monthly theme for GET MOMENTUM members - the Town Hall is coming up in just a couple of days - I came across this quote by Mr. Einstein:

Don’t think about why you question, simply don’t stop questioning. Don’t worry about what you can’t answer, and don’t try to explain what you can’t know. Curiosity is its own reason. Aren’t you in awe when you contemplate the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure behind reality? And this is the miracle of the human mind—to use its constructions, concepts, and formulas as tools to explain what man sees, feels and touches. Try to comprehend a little more each day.

Have holy curiosity.

I’m not sure exactly what “holy curiosity” would look sound and feel like. Let’s gather around on our Town Hall this month and explore this topic.
