The FIRST ‘Momentum’ Question

Every day we welcome new members to the Get Momentum Leadership Academy, we celebrate the commitment made and we acknowledge the work to be done.

15 New Get Momentum Members

Often, organizations commit the resources necessary to support entire groups of leaders who enroll in the program.

This week, Associate Professors from Samford University have joined Get Momentum. Below, you can watch a short video Jodi recorded. Here, she shares two ideas that come directly from our book: “Get Momentum: How to Start When You’re Stuck.”

#KnownFor - Q#1

The first question to ask yourself is:

What do I want to be known for?

We call this the “Roles-Legacy” question. That is, instead of answering that question for your entire life, we invite readers of Get Momentum to:

  • Choose 6 roles they want to focus on this year.
  • Pick ONE of those roles that you want to pay special attention to.
  • Open your Momentum Journal and write answers to Momentum Question #1.

“In relationship to THAT one role, over the next 6-24 months, I want to be know for…”

So That…

If you have already read the book “Your Best Just Got Better,” you’ll remember the ‘So That…’ process in chapter 7. (Here’s a video…)

Consider what you want to be known for (Question #1 from our book Get Momentum) and add to your strategic plan - or your Wish List! - by strengthening your WHY. Again, open your Momentum Journal and write more than just what you want to be known for and the task list of things to do to get there. Add to that journal entry with a list (more than 25?!) of reasons WHY you want to be known for doing that project you’re working on.

Oh, and if you’re a member of Get Momentum from anywhere in the world, please watch all the way to the end of that video Jodi recorded. Remember that offer you get as a member? (Here’s a reminder…)

Monday Message: MLK, Jr. Day & Remember to take the Quiz

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the US, and we hope it reminds you to focus on your leadership legacy.

If you’d like to watch a 5-minute portion of to the famous “I Have A Dream” speech, click here.

I have just 1 Get Momentum reminder for you today:
January’s theme is about having More Successful Meetings.
Remember, we define a meeting as:
Any time 2 or more people come together and 1 or more person(s) walks away with a task.
We challenge you to focus on making conversations as useful and productive as possible.
If you took the Quiz during the first week of the month, we encourage you to take it again at the end of the month and compare your answers. Ask yourself: “Did I make progress?”
The Quiz is assessment tool to give you practical and quantitative feedback on how you’re efforts are creating lasting change.
If you haven’t taken the Quiz yet, it’s not too late! Click here to download the Quiz.
You can also find it on pages 6-8 in the Course Work.

Feel free to print 5 copies of that PDF Quiz and hand them out to members of your team (or, even your spouse at home!).
Who knows, you just might have a conversation about how you have conversations that makes those conversations better!

May you be in inspiring meetings that lead to great opportunities.

Best wishes,
Jodi

On the phone, in person, or… Virtually through Video Chat!

Do you do things because they are the right thing to do, not knowing if anyone would notice?

Someone sent us a note last week and said:

“Jason and Jodi really care for each member ~ I don’t feel like just a “customer” in their program.”

Did you watch our latest 4-part seminar series called: Get Momentum: Move Beyond “Stuck” to Finally Achieve Your Dreams.

In just 4 videos (less than 15 minutes each) we taught you:

  • the #1 thing to do when you earn a promotion.
  • to manage time better in the morning to get more done.
  • the ONLY reason people miscommunicate (and argue!).
  • that Get Momentum teaches you to live your best life.

Last Friday, a Get Momentum member from Michigan told Jodi, “I’ve saved thousands of dollars this year alone by delegating work more clearly to my staff.”

And yesterday, Jason spoke with a member in the Middle East who is practicing what he learned in video #2. He has arrived home in time for dinner with his family more times this week than the entire month before!

  1. Did you watch those videos and make a change?
  2. Are you using that “time management” technique?
  3. Is your communication more clear and deliberate?
  4. Are you ready to take what you do to the next level?

Don’t stop at the 4th video. Keep the momentum going. You are capable of SO MUCH MORE, and we can coach you to be better!

Join the Get Momentum Academy today.

This 12-month program is an online AND in-person coaching program. In just 2-4 hours per month, you’ll learn how to:

  • Be a better leader,
  • Manage your team more effectively,
  • Eliminate the “distractions of unproductive days”, and
  • Get more of the most important things done.

You’re not done. You’re not tapped out. You haven’t reached your peak.

More is possible. Momentum is possible.

It’s time to work with coaches who know you, what you need to do AND to join a community that holds you accountable to the promise you made to yourself.

Read what Fabien Modoux - a long-time Get Momentum member in New York City - said about how the Get Momentum Academy has helped him be a better leader:

I’ve been a part of another online leadership training program in the past, but the Get Momentum Academy is the best I’ve experienced. The monthly themed content is very valuable and relevant to my day-to-day life, but the greatest benefit for me has been the accessibility to Jason and Jodi and the other Get Momentum members.

Jason and Jodi really care for each member - I don’t feel like just a “customer” in their program.

They respond quickly to needs and requests and Jason has gone out of his way to introduce me to an alumni member to help with one of my specific needs. That alumnus generously connected with me pro bono as a great kindness.

The online forum has provided several opportunities for me to connect “in real life” with members to collaborate on ideas and offer accountability to move toward our respective goals.

I can’t recommend the Get Momentum Academy more highly. I hope you’ll consider joining and will look forward to connecting with you if you do!

Don’t put off for one more day what you can start RIGHT NOW!

2014-11-17_12-59-26Time Management…

Between January 1st, 2016 and today, about 4,500 hours have passed.

Between today and December 31st, 2016, there are about 3,900 hours to go.

Read those numbers again.

Now, let me offer you a solution to your Time Management problem:

Get Momentum is a 12-month leadership development academy that supports your career by teaching you the skills, behaviors and tactics you need to succeed at work, and in life.

CLICK HERE to see the entire curriculum…

Recently, I interviewed Get Momentum members worldwide (click on the picture to see their responses) to understand what kind of coaching they were looking for.

You’re reading this post because you would say YES to the following four questions:

  1. Do you lead challenging discussions at work?
  2. Are you balancing large work projects and big life goals?
  3. Do you influence the leadership track of others?
  4. Are you going to spend a few days this year thinking about and planning your own leadership track?

Look, if the answer to all four questions is yes, let’s work together.

Click here to join Get Momentum, and let’s make sure you get the most out of the next few months. And, so you know, here are the next few Get momentum Leadership Academy themes:

AUGUST: Team-Building

Empower Your Team… Success - in life and at work - requires that you are able to work effectively AND efficiently with those around you. In order to go far AND fast, you need to lead people using specific empowerment techniques that build others’ self-efficacy while simultaneously encouraging them to step in to and up to ever increasing challenges.

Outcome: 5 tactics to use weekly that empower your teams to be more effective.

SEPTEMBER: Strategic Leadership

Lead Strategically/Work Tactically… Strategic: the long-term or overall aims and interests. Leadership: the act of leading a group of people or an organization. Leaders who spend time focused on the future, are better able to manage and direct what needs to be done in the short and mid-term. Working this way gives you time to think.

Outcome: 5 ways to step out of the day-to-day busy-ness of work and build strategic thinking habits.

OCTOBER: Productive Habits

Build Better Habits & Routines… Your “productive day” starts long before your alarm clock jolts you awake in the morning. What you do before you fall asleep, what you eat for dinner, what you talk about on your way home, how you end your day before you leave the office…

Outcome: 5 ways to improve your habits and change your routines.

Ok, only because I KNOW a few of you will want to know, here are the themes for November and December:

NOVEMBER: Find Your People

Build Meaningful Relationships… Every day, you’re being positively (encouraged) or negatively (distracted) influenced by the few people you call friends, family and colleagues. People you spend the most time with will have the biggest impact on your professional life and your personal experiences.

Outcome: 5 ways to take your grow your network with influential people.

DECEMBER: Innovation

Creativity and Innovation in Leadership… Innovation is the result of creative ideas being implementation successfully. Your success as a leader to your organization, your team, and even your family is tied directly to your ability to change, assimilate, and innovate.

Outcome: 5 ways to learn how to think more creatively and drive innovation.

Work at a desk AND want to be healthy?

You’re reading this on your phone, in bed. Or, on a tablet on the train. Perhaps you’re seeing this in between meetings on your lunch break. No matter WHAT, the only way you’re reading this - and watching that video - is if you’re connected to the Internet. And, connected to the Internet means you’re connected to everything. And, it’s just THAT that I’m concerned about.

Did you know that most people reading this blog are juggling more priorities than they can handle? Did you know that at the end of most days, when I call to check in with Get Momentum members (worldwide) there is one thing I constantly hear, and that is, “Jason…there’s just too much to do.”

Oh, and did you know that after making 32 phone calls last week, I heard NO as the answer to this question 17 times:

“Are you going to have time to work out/exercise/practice yoga/relax today?”

That’s more than 50% of the people I’m talking to saying they are “too stressed” and have “too much to do” to do the VERY things that would de-stress them. And they know it.

Well, this is the reason we’ve partnered with Desk-Yogi.com - it’s yoga, relaxation, stretching AND strength training right here. Right on your phone/tablet/computer. If you can connect to the Internet and you have 5-15 minutes, you have my word that Desk-Yogi.com will teach you something you can use RIGHT AWAY.

As in RIGHT NOW.

Every Get Momentum member who joins at the Professional and Premium level automatically receives a 90-day membership ($30 value) to Desk-Yogi.com

We think you’re going to like it… click here to join us.

She’s the “yin” to my “yang”

Those of you who know Jodi, you know she’s the “yin” to my “yang.”

Look, she’s the introvert, and I’m the one who makes sure we dream of new books to write, bigger/longer vacations to take, and new Get Momentum courses we can teach!

People often ask, “How do you manage each others’ roles in the Get Momentum coaching program?”

Well, it’s her job to make sure people are understood, and they feel connected.  (Me, I just keep running ahead saying, “Follow meeee!”)

Jodi has had a “job” since she was 10 years old (doing inventory in department stores). She’ll tell you that in all those years, she’s learned ONE thing about business:

People are starved for real connection.

Your clients want to be seen, heard, and feel that they belong. When someone says, “hi, please, thank you, and good to see you again,” - and you can tell they mean it - it makes a difference.

It doesn’t surprise us that many of our clients have become good friends.

And, we continue to meet Get Momentum members around the world for Coffee Chats and dinners. Why? Jodi is convinced it’s because we share what is real. Over multiple conversations, we get to know what’s important in each others’  lives. Sure, every now and then Jodi will share some business coaching/advice. [If you haven’t booked time with her to talk about YOUR business, do that asap!] Sometimes she’ll introduce them to a media contact. But mostly, when she knows who you are, when she understands your motives for action, she’s able to care about what you care about.

In 2009 the Women’s Business Social was born in Ojai, CA. It was a networking event for women in business. Jodi started it because she couldn’t find a business/networking event that she wanted to attend. For more than 5 years she hosted an event every month. And, it was a huge success. Women drove from more than an hour away to attend. The local news wrote about it. Jodi was even  invited to speak about it at conferences in Paris, France and Venice, Italy!

Why?

Easy… because people believed that they would be understood.

And that - above all else - is motivating.

If you’re looking for this kind of connection to a supportive business community of people, click here to see what Get Momentum is all about.

Leaders Are Focused On These 5 Top Priorities

Over the last quarter, we’ve researched (via email surveys, phone call interviews as well as in-person workshops in San Francisco, New York, Singapore and Los Angeles) the topic of “Prioritization” by asking people what their top priorities are for 2015.

Top 5 Priorities of Leaders Worldwide

Nearly 400 people from countries around the world have shared their 2015 priorities with us.

Next, I’m going to share the TOP FIVE responses we received.

After that, I’m going to share a special invitation with you…

Global Leaders Are Focused On These 5 Priorities

  1. Uninterrupted Time With Friends & Family
  2. Time for Wellness, Play & Other Interests
  3. Creating New Business
  4. More Quality Time to Think
  5. Improved Leadership Skills

So, I’ll ask:

Not to stress you out, but have you thought about…

…what will happen if you DON’T get some help with some of those priorities?

Is the order different? Are your topics different?

The Invitation

The list of the TOP 5 Priorities totally amazed us because Jodi and I designed Get Momentum to help leaders like you improve ONE key leadership skill every month. You’ll build this skill faster than you would if you tried to do it on your own.

That’s why we call it momentum…

If you are ready to be a more visible, more influential, and a more productive leader for your product, your service, or your cause, the Get Momentum coaching program is for you. Now is the time.

Your Get Momentum membership is NOT like a gym membership or other online programs.

It’s not something that you sign up for and never use!

We’ve got your back. And you will get the MOST from your time and money. Jodi and I personally call, email and text you to check in every month.

We can do this because it’s an intimate group; we know every one of the 102 members by name!

And, we’re ready for the next 102 of you to join.

Here’s my suggestion:

Check out the membership levels and see which one is right for you.

It’s that easy.

I truly wish you all the best.

Your Coach,

Read More, Grow Faster, Achieve More (in life AND at work)

10,000 book summaries of the greatest books written that make it easier for you to be, do and have more…

That is what getAbstract is all about!

As many of you reading this know, I read…a lot. I figure I read (in their entirety) about 70 books a year. In addition to that, I research another 150-200 books each year. You’re probably wondering…

“Jason, how do you have TIME for all that reading?”

Well, I use a few services that help me out. For example, TED.com gives me the current list of “popular” speakers out there. And, either before or after their “TED Talk,” most of those folks write a book. And, for GetMomentum members (click here for info…), you get something very, very special.

But first, let me share some of my tools with you. Audible.com gives me access to thousands of audiobooks wherever I am. And, Podcasts (I use iTunes) give me another few hours of content to listen to each month. Oh, and YouTube and Vimeo let me SEE the authors of books and articles that I think I need to be reading…Before I spend the money on their stuff!

Ever since I was a kid, I have had a love of reading. (I think it had to do with the fact that from the time I was 4 years old, until I was 15, we didn’t have a Television in our house…I HAD to read, if I wanted to escape!)

Whether I’m learning something new from educational books or losing myself in a universe that’s embroiled in some science fiction “coming reality”, there isn’t anything like losing myself in a good book, a good story.

Over the past 20 days, I have been in 5 countries, attended 2 conferences, spoke at a workshop in Bali, met clients in Hong Kong, and went for an amazing trail run in Ojai. Yup, as busy as I can think I am…I also have read FOUR books, hundred of pages of magazines, and researched another 20 or so books/authors.

My favorite tool…an absolute game-changer…is my subscription to getAbstract.com - more than 10,000 books summarized!

Not only can I print out and read the 5-page PDF (or, download to my phone/kindle/droid), while I’m driving or even out for a bike ride or run, I can listen to the MP3 recording of MANY of those summaries.

Regularly, a three month subscription to getAbstract costs near $100.

For a limited time, we’re giving you a voucher for 3 months of getAbstract for free for ALL new GetMomentum members.

You get access to the ENTIRE library of 10,000 book summaries for…FREE!

You even get free access to summaries of popular TED Talks!

Interested in business? Read reviews of books by Tim Ferris, Sheryl Sandberg, Eric Ries, Dale Carnegie, and thousands of others all in your spare time.

Before trying getAbstract, I had thought it wasn’t for me; I thought I needed to “READ” an entire book to know whether or not it could help me. I’m so glad I gave them a shot and proved myself wrong.

This deal is an awesome way to see if you feel the same way. Click here and make sure you don’t miss out!

P.S. Join GetMomentum, and then comment below and let me know what book summary you’re going to download first! I’m going to send a Special Bonus to one of you next week!
