Do you ever think, “There’s something more…”

Do you pause to look at art?

I mean, do ever take a few moments to look at what’s been created out there and wonder…let your mind wander?

Do you ever think, “There’s something more for me to be making…”?

The reason I ask is threefold:

First, I found out last week that a dear friend of mine in Italy lost his father in a terrible work accident. I just can’t imagine. One day his dad is there, the next day…Gone. My thoughts, and prayers go out to him and his family.

Second, I read a quote attributed to Michelangelo recently, “The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we hit it.” Is it time for you to reset what you’re aiming for, and hit a few of those goals?

Third, I’m listening to a book by Stephen King, and there’s a line in there that I’ve had to re-play about a dozen times:

“Stopping a piece of work just because it’s hard is a bad idea. Sometimes you have to go on when you don’t feel like it…”

I’m in NYC this week, racing a triathlon next week, and traveling to Europe and the south of the United States in May. All along, I’m continuing to share this message of #Momentum.

Momentum: the impetus gained by a moving object”

Someone asked me yesterday if I’m an artist.

I thought about it for just a moment and replied, “My art is in words and action…

I hope you’ll read, hear and say some words today.

And most of all, I hope you’ll take some action.

#CoffeeChat in New York City on Sunday this weekend. Click here to see what that means!

A shared sense of purpose

  • What: #CoffeeChat
  • When: 26 April 2015
  • Where: Sweet Revenge (62 Carmine Street, New York City, NY)
  • Why: To share a conversation with like-minded folks, willing to discuss the big questions

“Do I have to register?” Nope, but you find out about the group here

#CoffeeChat is a time for us to meet while we’re on your way to work in the morning or just about to get your day started. We come together for about an hour to share stories and find some common conversation with other people who are working to make positive things happen.

Over the years of attending #CoffeeChat events, we see that people have continued to come together; it’s a little bit of networking and a little bit of inspiration. I hope wherever you are you will consider organizing your own morning meetup with like-minded (or different-minded!) people in your community.

Do you FutureCast?

When you think about then, what happens?

then [adverb]: at that time; at the time in question; after that; next; afterward; also; in addition; in that case; therefore

That little word “then” always has a sexy word in the “productivity” world. You see, it’s easy to shrug off today’s Big Project, the prioritity of the week the Most Important Thing of the week by saying, “I’ll do that then…”

Have you ever said something like “after I do this, then I’ll have more time.”

I recently shared some “radio air time” on the “Natural Born Coaches” podcast with Marc Mawhinney. (Listen here…)

He asked some great questions he had collected while reading www.YourBestJustGotBetter.com and reviewing the www.getmomentum.com leadership development program on what it takes to build AND begin a personal “leadership development program.”

Of course, the Your Best Just Got Better podcast is there for you as well, just click here.

My dream for you is that you’ll start blending the word “now” in to your vocabulary from time to time when you might be tempted to say “then.”

That is, what do you think of when you think about now? Can you start something immediately that will move your mission forward? Can you do something right now that would help you #GetMomentum?

If you listen to that discussion that Marc and I had, leave a comment or send me a message to let me know what stood out most for you! (Of course, if you’re a GetMomentum member and want to chat about what I was discussing, let’s schedule some time!)

99 other people to watch out there…

Big news! Via twitter, I heard the news that the AMA (American Management Association) published a list of leaders to watch throughout 2015. The note I got said, “Jason, know anyone on this list?” Well, I looked through the first 90 or so people, realizing that YES, I did know a few of them. And then…

Date: February, 2015
News Announcement: The 100 Leaders to Watch in Business
Outlet: American Management Association

The American Management Association (AMA) recently published its list of the top 100 leaders who are expected to most influence business in 2015.

I see my name is included on the list! (Look toward the bottom…There’s Jason W. Womack.)

The people who need time management training…

(Some of the best books on “why” time must be managed.)

I’ve got to share… Get Momentum members around the world have been looking forward to this month’s Get Momentum Theme for a long time now.

I told Jodi at lunch yesterday, “This is kinda what I’m known for…”

A little history…

I started studying Time Management in 1991. In 1995, my dad gave me a copy of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” And, in 1997 I had my first Palm Pilot time management organizer.

And, you knew that I was employee #4 at the David Allen Company - back in 2000 - right?

In 2007 Jodi and I founded the Womack Company.

And 2012, we started the Get Momentum development program for leaders and managers like you. People who weren’t always getting the Professional Skills training they needed to achieve their next goals.

Now, relative to THIS months theme at Get Momentum:

…here’s the funny thing about time management trainings that I have observed over the last 17 years: the people who need time management training the MOST, don’t make time for it.

When you study the tips and executive behaviors of great time management with your friends, coworkers and even your spouse, you improve your skills faster than if you try to implement these tactics on our own.

We’d like to help make your life a little easier, if we can.

We made a PDF called a “Conversation Starter” that we’d like you to share with your team. And yes, your spouse can be your “team” even if you don’t work together. Just click below to download and print a few copies of that PDF. Ready?

(WARNING: If you introduce this (or anything) to your spouse, frame it as a way of helping YOU get better, not as a criticism of them not doing it right…)

PS: We’d like you to share this PDF with everyone you work with closely during the day. Because when you fill out the quiz and talk for 5 minutes about it with your co-workers, you’re going to come up with an idea on how to manage your time better.

And, that’s what Get Momentum is all about. Working better together.

Remember, you can —> Click Here <— to download the PDF.

What are your “Must Dos” that help you have better days?

Do you have your own way?

Recently, a journalist reached out after reading Your Best Just Got Better (chapter 1 here) and asked:

“Do you have a list of “To Dos” that you you make sure to do every day?”

I opened up my favorite application for “free-thinking” and wrote out a quick mind-map of the things that I know “if I do, my day is #Better.” So, here’s my list:

    1. Start the day w/ gratitude. Write a letter to a client, vendor, author, or other to let them know what what THEY do makes MY life better.
    2. Increase the heart rate, for at least 30 minutes. Walk, ride, run, swim, do SOMEthing to strengthen the HEART muscle; I need that blood system runnin’ to strengthen the MENTAL muscle.
    3. Eat. Better. The NEXT 5 hours of productivity will be affected by what I do/don’t put into the system right now. Snacks that are high in fat, low in sugar…At least two a day.

(Click the blue bird to share that with your community!)

Oh, and I’d add two more ideas for you here…

  1. Think big…As in “Predict. Adapt. Improve.” I know that my work and my world 12 months from now will be limited by the thoughts I didn’t have today. So, I do this by reading, watching, listening or interviewing someone to help me think bigger.
  2. Scan social media, find a place to lend a comment, idea, activity, etc … something that comes from http://wmck.co/ybjgbreviews that could help that person move further…Faster.

Think about it, these are not just “To” dos, for me they are the things that increase the likelihood that I’ll have a good day. No, it’s not a guarantee, but boy does it go a long way in creating the conditions that are just right.

How about you? What are your “Must Dos” that help you have better days?
